Do we really understand what it’s like being a child or young person living in Sunderland in 2021?
The chart below from Sunderland Children’s Strategic Partnership reveals that their lives are not as straight forward as we might imagine.
It’s encouraging to see many Churches attending the Mental Health First Aid for children and young people and WellKidz training which has been running since 2020.
We are hopeful that this will better equip the Church to support children and young people. For details of future training dates check our events page
Connect Network and Wearside Youth for Christ share a vision to reach every child with the good news of the gospel and to encourage them to have high aspiration.
To support this goal we set up a Youth Forum which provides a way for all Christian children’ and youth workers to be part of a shared strategy.
This forum provides a space to share ideas and resources as well as helping us map out where Churches are already engaging with children’s and young people, and assessing where there are any gaps.
We also have future plans to work with Cornerstone North East and Together for Children to recruit more forster carers across the city. Unfortunately these plans were put on hold due to COVID-19.
"I thought the session was spot on. Simply, it brought people together to connect and hear what is going on amongst children’s and youth work in Sunderland which was really encouraging to hear and to pray into those things and the young people in Sunderland.
The harvest is plentiful yet the workers are few’. I see so much hunger to know more about Jesus in the schools I’ve been in."
