COVID-19 Recovery Conversation

As we come out of lockdown, there is going to be a short window of opportunity where people are open to connecting in ways they haven’t been previously. People are desperate for connection.

Churches are brilliantly positioned to provide some of what’s been missing: lack of connectivity, lack of community, the need to recover from the lack of certainty, recover / grieve for the losses of loved ones, lack of opportunities for new things.

The research that Connect Network recently carried out evidenced that the no.1 issue across all communities is social isolation, and the consequent poor mental and emotional health.

Connect Network is bidding for funding to enable churches to put on community events/celebrations/memorials, that are right for their community, to re-connect people (covid-19 safely.) Eg’s summer fayre, memorial services, picnic in the park with face painting and games etc (It has to be wider than your Church community but could be in/on your Church premises.)

We are hoping to give each participating church approx.£500. We’d love churches across the city to join us and be part of Sunderland’s recovery.

These sorts of projects are achievable when churches work together and support one another!
