Health & Wellbeing Children and Young People

Wearside.png

Suicide rates amongst females under 25s has increased by 93.8% since 2012 and it is now estimated that 1 in 8 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder, according to the Good Children 2020 report. These statistics are based upon research done before the pandemic. Wecan only imagine what the wellbeing of children and young people is at the moment when most

are at home 24/7, school is all online and they are unable to meet their friends. Life is not easy!

That is why we believe talking about Well-Being is so important!

What are we doing?

It has been a privilege to support the work of Wearside Youth for Christ who have teamed up with Dave Burke; a local pastor and accredited Mental Health First Aid instructor, to offer training, via zoom on Children and Young peoples’ mental health to help us meet these challenges.

This training, spread over 3 sessions, has been very well received by church leaders, youth pastors and children’s workers. With excellent feedback from participants one of whom said “the course was delivered at a good pace and maximised our involvement. The materials are of a high standard, easy to use and adaptable.”

We hope to continue to help equip churches with tools to support young people during these difficult times and help to point them towards their creator God who loves them and cares for their every need.

People who do the course will:

- Discover what the bible says about mental health and wellbeing

- Learn how Christian spiritual life can enhance mental health

- Gain a certificate in Mental Health Awareness accredited by Mental Health first Aid England.

- Be trained to lead Well Kidz; a course developed by Wearside Youth for Christ

Next Course Date:   TBC

These sorts of projects are achievable when churches work together and support one another!
